Let’s Get Started
I think it’s about time to start a website for my music projects.
I’ve been making music with computers as a hobby for quite a few years… since 1999 perhaps when the PS1 game titled MTV Music Generator (a.k.a. Music 2000) came out. I vaguely remember toying with a PC program called MixMan as well. Mixman used to host submissions on their website for people to listen to. I remember cycling between making chiptunes on a Gameboy emulator running LSDJ (little sound dj) and downloading jungle/dnb discographies from Napster. I think I would not have had much exposure to electronic music if it wasn’t for the p2p music sharing services of the time. Feels like so long ago.
I made beats and tunes casually for years and it wasn’t till 2003 or so till I was introduced to the tracker DAW Renoise. The workflow in that program was a real game changer and I remember getting into enough of a flow to just get the music down as fast as possible. What makes a tracker appealing to me is that the workflow allows me to work quickly without having to toggle one hand between mouse and keyboard. I have tried various other DAWs including Ableton Live and Apple Logic which all have their merits. I have also been working on how to incorporate Renoise into live shows. Which felt natural and has had success so far.
As I get this website better put together I will update this blog with random stories and thoughts and pictures of my projects. Some of these posts will vague and stream of consciousness and some posts will be exacting and technical.
